OK, so this gory show has starring two bands and the first are DOSSIER NEGRO from Spain with their side of the split titled "The Pungent Stench Of Witchcraft". Very cool and promising already, right? Things start to roll with a D-Beat and meaty riffs accompanied by gory vocals in the vein of GRUESOME STUFF RELISH, IMPETIGO and ALTAR OF GIALLO. Downtuned to hell and dripping with juicy gore. They add some wicked solos, which definitely add to the overall horror / gore / witchcraft atmosphere. The band is named after the legendary Spanish horror comics, so their lyrics reflect whatever was going on there. I’m not familiar with those comics, but if they are as good as DOSSIER NEGRO then I want to check them out. In fact the band features GRUESOME STUFF RELISH, LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER and DEAD NEANDERTHALS members, so these are veterans of Goregrind and you must check this band out, this is easily the best 5 tracks I’ve heard since the glorious IMPETIGO and PUNGENT STENCH days!! PICADILLO GENITAL is way more obscure, they also come from Spain but apart from that there isn’t much info about the band. Their side consists of 7 tracks, but long intros are featured in two of them. It’s more Death Metal orientied Crust / Grind with morbid sexual overtones. PICADILLO GENITAL sound way heavier than DOSSIER NEGRO, the drums are monstrous and riffs often lean into BOLT THROWER and old CARCASS direction. Slow parts are really sloooow and mid-paced stuff just buries you under heaviness. The riffs are fairly simple, but catchy and will make you headbang like a zombie on speed. Overall, I don’t even know which band I prefer, as they are both very good and different sounding. So although this split CD is short, quality songs make up for the quantity and you want to listen to it over again and again. What a great discovery!
