The legacy of the almighty BATHORY has become in some way the Ying and Yang of today’s Black Metal. Their first couple of harsh Black Metal releases have influenced a whole generation of fans and musicians and their second era with releases like “Hammerheart” and / or “Twilight Of The Gods” has set standards if it comes to all kind of Pagan / Viking Metal music. And in the hearts of the Finnish band DRAUGNIM this legacy is continued with all possible dedication. The band has already been founded in 1999 but due to the several line-up problems it took quite a while until the machine started to work continuously. With “Horizons Low” they present their second release (their debut “Northwind’s Ire” has been released in 2008) and I can’t avoid to state from the start that this output is a true masterpiece. DRAUGNIM is not a further sing along fun act but a band which is following the true path of ‘bathorised’ Black Metal. The presented seven tracks are offering such a majestic atmosphere – you can nearly touch the dark vibes – and from the first notes of tracks like ‘One Of Lost’ you will fully understand my point. Maybe I already advised this in one my former reviews but some music means something and this small issue is making the difference. With this release the band automatically find their place under the top five of Finland’s Metal elite together with other breathtaking acts like MOONSORROW.
