1996 marks the year of birth for French technical Deathers DUNGORTHEB who despite the rather strange name are a musically extremely strong act and now ready to attack the Metal scene with their first full-length CD "Intended To…". DUNGORTHEB blend influences of late DEATH, DISINCARNATE and NOCTURNUS in perfection, the guitar play reminds of good old Chuck Schuldiner (R.I.P. – You are deeply missed…) and James Murphy and varies between powerful heaviness and melodic leads. The vocals are aggressive, not too deep, growls that give DUNGORTHEB an individual note and enable them to stand out of other technical Death Metal bands. The production is excellent and resembles "Individual Thought Patterns", the songwriting is complex but still as transparent and memorable as later DEATH. The snare drum sound could be better, because it is a bit too clinical and does not fit to the overall bassy production, but that is really just a minimal dark spot. My personal highlights ‘Place Of Alienation’ and ‘Beyond The Darkness’ are great technical Death tunes that pay tribute to the mighty forefathers of this genre, so be sure to check this out!!!
