DYSCARNATE
And So It Came To Pass

UK based Death Metal Outfit DYSCARNATE is not a newcomer. After two demos (2006 and 2008) and their debut in 2010, their sophomore album is a logical evolution in their sound. This is modern Death Metal played the way it was meant to be. And no, there are no Hardcore influences or breakdowns aplenty. This power trio has crafted one hell of an album, focused on extreme music taken to the extreme. The production is perfect. Both, the guitar and bass tones are on top of the mix, with Matt Unsworth pounding those drums in the background. It’s all you’d expect from a post 2000 Death Metal production, with some welcomed details. First, the overall sound, even with the clean mix, is raw and overwhelming. Second, execution wise, these guys are excellent musicians. Even in the fast-paced attack that is "And So It Came To Pass", the slower songs and passages have a lot of groove and atmosphere where it is needed. Third, the absence of guitar wankering or technical and / or complex music took me by surprise. At last, but definitely not least, is the vocal department. Here, Henry Bates (bass) and Tom Whitty (guitar) trade the mid-range screams and the deep growls respectively, adding a lot of dimension to the music. I might add that, usually, I stay way from post 2000 Death Metal. I can’t stand the overproduced sound. It is just too fake for me. But in DYSCARNATE’s case, instead of the usual Death Metal + "core" equation, they try to sound different. They do have some BEHEMOTH, DYING FETUS and maybe some MISERY INDEX influences here and there. But that is about it. Everything else is 3 guys slaying their instruments mercilessly. DYSCARNATE has crafted an album that has one sole purpose: to kick ass. The only drawback here is that the songs do have similarities in the structure and there is little to no variation at all. Even when the album is 38 minutes long, after the first half it gets a little tiring, since the ear pounding never stops. Anyway, "And So It Came To Pass" is one enjoyable listening experience for all Death Metal fans.
