Dominum Ex Mortis

Straight from one of my favorite European cities, the beautiful Catalan capital Barcelona, a place that has it all, great places to eat and drink, waterview, small mountains, great architechture, history and now furious Black Metal in form of EDENKAISER. This is my first encounter with this band, inspired by the Scandinavian second attack of Black Metal. We are getting some good melodic Black Metal with quite a deal of hooking riffs, it is done by recipes that already have proved to be working, though done quite well, even though a bit rough on the edges here and there. That said the songs are well written and made, and often quite enjoyable. The samples used here and there, I can’t really decide on whether they are good or bad, but again sometimes fitting, at other times just filling, though I’m not sure that they are adding anything to the music and atmosphere. One of the real highlights on the album is the vocals from Lianne Krossburner, an aggressive lady of rage that has a fitting style, for whatever atmosphere the songs are hitting, quite well done and giving the overall feeling of the music a notch up. EDENKAISER is giving us a good blast with roots in the past, with this, their first full length album "Dominum Est Mortis". It can only be great to follow the progression of the Catalans, as the stones have been cast for something good, with this first offering. More info at: www.facebook.com/edenkaiserband
