Sinister Devastation

I’m not that fond of Death Metal these days, unless we are talking some of the old gods and their legendary albums. In many ways Death Metal has become dull. Too many bands and albums are made over the same formula. Back when, what is coined as Cavern Death Metal these days, started to emerge, drawing heavily on gods like INCANTATION and IMMOLATION everything was jolly – and then everyone sounded the same. Then we have sterile and clean Tech-Death Metal, but why? DISMEMBER and ENTOMBED did good in the olden days, but do we really need a thousand bands to sound like the first two albums, of those two bands? So, I was a tad surprised, when my all-knowing editor handed me this mini album by the fairly new band ENDLESS SEDATION. But all-knowing Mr. Stöver knows that I am a sucker for mad South American Metal in all forms and ENDLESS SEDITION hails from Chile. On top of that ENDLESS SEDITION features growler Hatred, who has roamed in bands like THY SERPENT’S CULT and EVIL HATRED, which are two bands I have been enjoying throughout time. The band has so far released a demo, an EP and a three-way split album. The latter released in 2021, so this mini album is being their first release in four years – and what a return. The music is powerful and reeks of the sheer brutality and relentlessness of IMMOLATION around “Failures For Gods” and “Close To A World Below”. That together with a haunting atmosphere, eerie build ups, just take the intro to the title track, catching melodies and pieces reaching into the Heavy Metal universe, a quite technical level and did I mention brutality? The first track is instrumental, though with all the things going on, I could have lived with five such tracks. Though then, 22 seconds into the second track ‘Usurpation Of Organs’, Hatred takes the scene and smashes in skulls with his vocals – and the sheer bliss of instrumental tunes disappears. The magnum opus ‘Progressive Decadence’ starts out with 3:42 minutes of instrumental goodness, where we are brought back to the title tracks intro. Haunting yet beautiful, almost neo-classical Heavy Metal with a twisted mind, before the vocals set in, after 13 seconds of brutality building up to a crescendo of aggressive Death Metal. If this five track gem isn’t picked up by a label, sooner than later, and released on vinyl, tape and CD, something is wrong within the world of Metal. Quite worked through tracks, nicely produced, an organic and powerful sound with a good balance between the musical elements. Solid musicianship and good vocals. Catchy, brutal, melodic, haunting, aggressive and beautiful – this release has it all. Enter your darkest dream: www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100055085186559
