ENEMY WITHIN
The Final Suffering

This German band formed back in 2004 and this is just their second album. They can be defined as a thrashing Death Metal band, with many references to bands like DEMOLITION HAMMER, SEPULTURA and PESTILENCE, with average Death Thrash vocals, and a very heavy production. To be honest, a band with more than two decades of experience I was kinda expecting something more, but let’s be honest, the style has been done to death (thrash), so expecting something out breaking was not an option. There are mainly fast songs, but the band also has some more mid-tempo passages here and there. To be honest, they are a lot better when playing fast. I really like the way they attained the guitar tone, that for some reason reminded me of some Morrisound recordings from the ’90s. At times, many songs sound quite similar, probably due to the similar tempo and the vocals that rarely change the way they are articulated. There are some really killer riffs in some songs like in ‘Thousand Mile Stare’, which in sound reminds me of SODOM. All in all the CD is good if you are fan of the style, yet sometimes it sounds a little bit outdated and even if this was released 25 years ago, it would probably not have gained that much attention anyway. But, there is potential, there are definitely some very good riffs here and there, and I must say that when the band sometimes plays a bit more technical, they do shine more than when going straight forward. Thrash fans will definitely need to give this a chance. By the way, this is a self released effort, so definitely Metal points for that!
