Subterranean Movement
(Displeased Records)
47:34min
Here we have the third full length by the Norwegian Black Metallers known as ENTHRAL performing a quite happening form of contemporary Black Metal including several strong Death Metal overtones concerning rhythms (some blasting passages in the opener ‘Earth Left Behind’ just for example) and riffing. Occasionally keyboards are added played by Stan Aarsted, formerly in DIMMU BORGIR. Productionwise the listener is offered a clear sound making it easy to distinguish the entire instrumentation. All songs are arranged with a sense for atmosphere and evolution and technicality is not used in a pointless way. Not following a traditional approach towards Black Metal this fourpiece could instead appeal to fans of e.g. SATYRICON (the portraits in the booklet look slightly similar to those to be found on “Nemesis Divina”, by the way), ZYKLON and similar formations. The vocals delivered by drummer Kjetil Hektoen (also hitting the skins in CREST OF DARKNESS) are although being quite varied all in the coarse, midranged register, sometimes turning a bit more high pitched for dramatic puposes. All in all this is not a monumental but certainly a good release. E-mail: worm50s@hotmail.com, website: www.enthral.org.
