ETHEREAL WOODS
Kenilworth

Kenilworth is a small town in England and next to the castle built in the 12th Century there is so far nothing special to report about this royal place. For ETHEREAL WOODS the castle and the surrounding woods are perfect places / sources of inspiration for their melodic Black Metal and mastermind Mark Britton (also part of the Black Metal Band EXCARNATION) honours this place with his third release. ETHEREAL WOODS play slow, melodic Black Metal, very heavily based on keys, amended by short trips to old British Doom and Death Metal – sometimes the band heavily reminds me of NIGHT CONQUERS DAY one of the lost jewels of US Black Metal. After listening to this release several times I know that this band puts his heart and soul into this record (nice detailed booklet etc.) but I also can’t avoid the feeling that something is missing. The seven tracks offer a nice mixture of the essential parts of the melodic Metal section but unfortunately nothing more. If you are searching a good album “Kenilworth” should not be completely ignored but currently due to a hell of new releases every week “average means death”. www.supernalmusic.com
