EXTERMINATION ORDER
The Siege Of Ascalon
(War Anthem Records)

Combining the sounds of early AMON AMARTH and mighty BOLT THROWER isn’t a bad idea at all, as this five piece, which is based around actual and former HEAVEN SHALL BURN members, delivers a hear- and honourable proof. A mixture of epic, mighty and melodical Death Metal which is rolling over the listener. Typical riffings and the very bass orientated growls of FALL OF SERENITY singer John, like in the opening title track ‘The Siege Of Ascalon’ or later in ‘An Iron Shroud’ lets one immediately think about the trademark songwriting of AMON AMARTH, featuring even some classical Heavy Metal moments around their guitar solos. All that comes together with the band’s other obvious influence, the mighty BOLT THROWER and their typical melodical, edgy type of song structures, which are building up tension, to explode and roll over the battlefield like fighting tanks, powerfully crushing every bone which lies in their way. The song ‘Anon We Are Fallen’ is a good example for this. The final track, ‘Siege Of Power’, and a few riffs in ‘Cadmean Victory’ are even adding rough and sharp crusty edges to the music. As the guitar player of HEAVEN SHALL BURN and EXTERMINATION ORDER, Maik Weichert, once mentioned in a HEAVEN SHALL BURN interview: “As long as BOLT THROWER do not write new songs anymore, we need to do so instead.“ Good idea, indeed. Needles to say that there are also countless other bands out of the Death Metal history, from Sweden as well as from the United States, which had their impact on these five musicians, from AUTOPSY to ENTOMBED and back. This project or band, whatever… is a great playground for creating and playing songs as fans written with the knowledge of skilled professional musicians. This EP is a great start signal, I want to hear more of that soon… https://exterminationorder.bandcamp.com, www.facebook.com/waranthemrecords
