FALLS OF RAUROS
Key To A Vanishing Future

I’ve had “Key To A Vanishing Future” on my “to-listen” list for about a couple of weeks now. I was looking for Post Metal releases of 2022 and saw this album primarily listed under atmospheric Black Metal and then subsequently Post Metal, not that the mixture of genres is a new but the rhythmic structure that FALLS OF RAUROS brings to their music is quite enjoyable. As subtle as their atmosphere envelopes the room, the band focuses heavily on the interplay between the instruments, the guitar solos are beautiful and haunting. The opener ‘Clarity’ feels like an amalgamation of the spirit of Black Metal with the reflection of Post Metal. Some passages sound like a tributary of Death Metal but FALLS OF RAUROS pulls us back into the gentleness that they’ve laid upon for us to consume. I have to admit, this is some of the fantastic bass playing, I can not only hear it loud and clear, it adds to a beautiful slab of backend layer that permeates through the delivery. When you step back to objectively appreciate the music as a whole, it isn’t a brand new mechanism of delivery or writing, but it’s been put together so delicately, like a thousand piece jigsaw puzzle. The vocals sound good, the guitars shine now and then, the rhythm section is relentless with a special mention to the bassist in the band. I suppose on the whole FALLS OF RAUROS borrows the spirit of Black Metal and marries it with both Folk elements and the rigour of Post Metal to make “Key To A Vanishing Future” a very pleasant listen. If you’ve not heard this release yet, the album cover communicates clearly what lies within, an element of desolation, a broken key, skies fading to black with nothing else around. I quite enjoyed the sound of this, give this some time and I’m sure it’ll grow on you. I understand not every slab of Metal is for everyone and everyone turns away from one album or another but I’d request you to check this out. It is quite entertaining to be honest!
