Essenz I / II
(F.D.A. Records)

Quite frankly I was a little bit surprised seeing F.D.A. Records advertising “Essenz I / II” as Post Black Metal, because, at least for my ears, the word “post” is misleading since the five songs are genuine Black Metal. Generally spoken I guess we all know that such genre designations are nothing more than a rough guide and each generation of Metalheads has its own definitions. Bands like LUNAR AURORA and NAGELFAR played this kind of Black Metal before even the term Post Black Metal was invented. If I got things right “Essenz I / II” is compilation, featuring three previously released tracks of the “Essenz I” EP plus two new ones. Regarding the quality there is no difference. FLESIA, by the way hailing from Saxonia, Germany, are presenting a very dense, brutal and rough Black Metal. Mostly fast forward played, but the foot is also taken off the gas pedal here and there. Especially those more slower parts arouse some sort of epic and monumental feeling. In combination with the German lyrics, performed by an aggressive gargling vocalist, a very intense feeling, at least if one is able to understand the lyrics, dealing with misanthropy and wrath. Another aspect that I find remarkable and that should definitely be taken into account is the fact that FLESIA are a newcomer, founded in 2020. But the trio already released an full-length (“Trost”) plus the mentioned EP and have delivered more quality than other Black Metal bands during their entire career. I don’t have a crystal ball, but if FLESIA keeps going like this they are on the way to becoming one of the most impressive Black Metal bands in Germany. Definitely a must listen for all Black Metal connoisseurs, who should make their mandatory visit here www.facebook.com/flesiabm and here www.facebook.com/fdarec
