FOR CENTURIES are hailing from Mexico and were already formed in 2017. After an EP and some small releases, they finally present their first full-length in form of “Before The Eyes Of Doom (Per Sæcula Sæculorum)”. The band plays classic Doom Metal and still bands like CANDLEMASS, ST. VITUS or SOLITUDE AETERNUS are a huge influence for a lot of bands nowadays and FOR CENTURIES is one of them. But also bands like PARADISE LOST can be traced in their guitar sound. The opener ‘Denizen Of The Frozen Chasm’ offers a modern version of what CANDLEMASS and Co. started in the ’80s. I still prefer grunted vocals, but vocalist Ivan offers good vocals and manages to present them in a very nice way, not sounding annoying to people like me. What is really mandatory to mention is the brilliant guitar and bass work. The music is really big and the mentioned PARADISE LOST don’t offer better songs nowadays than FOR CENTURIES. The second offering ‘The Mighty Coven (Fornever Sun To Rise Again)’ starts with some samples before an acoustic guitar opens the track, accompanied by the electric lead guitar. Again the vocals really nail it and lead into an rocky uptempo Doom track with some brilliant guitar melodies. A sample of Pinhead opens ‘Prometheus… And The Lignum Scientiae’ which again offers some solid Doom which more and more coquets and breaks the border to Death Metal and I hear some vibes of old CATHEDRAL in their sound as well. ‘Vultures Of The Dark’ speeds up again and the vocals sound like Ozzy in his best years while the guitars and a very audible bass still stay in the Doom Death field. All together I can say that this output is very enjoyable and worth to check for Doom fans as the material is very solid and a lot of work has been put into the songs to finish them. This is not a rushed one but a really matured and very solid output with damn good songwriting.
