Iceland seems to become a new source of endless talented bands in the Black Metal genre. Formed in 2019, FORSMÁN present their first output “Dönsum Í Logans Ljóma” via Ván Records who have a talent to find good newcomers. The opener ‘Falsgod’ is a pretty matured Black Metal track with the typical trademarks of the cold icelandic Black Metal sound. Dissonant guitars paired with good drumming and vocals somewhere between grunts and intense screams. ‘Milli Eilífdar Og Einskis’ continues harsh, but turns more melodic in the middle. The style is similar to the better-known bands like MISÞYRMING, but that does not mean they need to hide behind them or copy this nowadays popular style. Their sound is unique and pretty good and gets varied by some classic Heavy Metal tunes here and there. FORSMÁN is definitely a band worth to check as their atmosphere is damn thick and just as good as any output the from mentioned MISÞYRMING or SINMARA, both bands I enjoy a lot. ‘Vonarglaeta’ increases the intensity again and unleashes the full potential of the band. Once again these dissonant guitars, packed full with melodies, perfect drumming and the vocals work together perfectly. Especially the lead guitar is fantastic on this track and when the grunts appear the track comes close to perfection. The final track of this four track EP is ‘Hamfarir’. A slower tune, but very intense again with damn good guitars and vocals, cool breaks and heavy guitars. The blistering cold guitars directly shred their way into the listeners brain. Even though the involved musicians are no newcomers, it’s not that often to receive such an intense and good debut. This one really made my week and will continue its rotation in my player for quite a while I guess. Ván Records sends another hopeful into the Black Metal race for 2021 and I hope to hear a full-length from FORSMÁN soon. www.facebook.com/forsmanband, www.van-records.com
