FUNERALOPOLIS
...Of Deceit And Utter Madness
(Memento Mori)
38:16min

Grim gloomy and doomy Death Metal, pacing steady forward in midtempo, with a few blasts and some slow drawling parts. The power chords, that drives the game forward, are massive and quite classic, Doom Metal style, especially CANDLEMASS haunts the big chords, before they turn into more Death Metal oriented riffing here and there. There is some really good and hooking guitar work on this album, together with a solid rhythm base that lays the perfect foundation for the six strings and the wicked bastard of a scream and growl. This is the first full length album from this Swiss band, and my first encounter with them, as far as I remember. And a quite positive encounter, as the hooking riffing and sick vocals work really well in this context. Not all doomy and gloomy. There is some bleak darkness, which leads towards Black Metal as well and some great aggressive parts, dragging towards grinding Death Metal, though all weaved well into the doomy universe of FUNERALOPOLIS, and the overall atmosphere on the album is quite drawing as well. If the above speaks to you, dig into the dark vortex FUNERALOPOLIS offers. If you get to the surface again, you’ll have enjoyed the ride!
