GOHOLOR
In Saeculis Obscuris
(Symbol Of Domination Productions / Satanath Records)
16:06min

Slovakia is not a country that has earned a lot of merits in Metal yet. GOHOLOR are out to change that. After listening to their first ever release, I am not that sure if they will earn those merits. Of course, the blackened Death Metal of “In Saeculis Obscuris” is solid, well played and tidily arranged, no question. But on the other hand, it sounds pretty sterile and antiseptic, the whole 16 minutes of the EP passed me by without leaving any impression. “In Saeculis Obscuris” seems to be composed at the drawing board, and this is not a good verdict on a record. Additionally, the mix was pretty miscarried, the vocals are way too loud, so that the music sometimes is only vaguely perceptible. And the vocals themselves aren’t that good to be put in such a spotlight. So I can only state the this EP gives me the gripes.
