GOLOD is a project hailing from Canada and active since the fall of 2019. The first official release “…To Be Lost And Forgotten In Solitude” now sees the light of day. The opening track, ‘The Lone Spire’, is slow and depressed (suicidal) Black Metal, reminding me of older FORGOTTEN TOMB. The production is kept pretty raw, while the lead melody already shows an understanding for this style. Winds starts the song and keyboards carry it through the depressed and intense theme which has a 70s Stoner Rock melody. ‘The Yearning Spirit’ starts similar and is a spacy keyboard interlude. It turns into ‘The Boreal Winds’, which is a raw mix between FORGOTTEN TOMB, BURZUM and old KATATONIA, far rawer than the opener, but more melodic in the second half. ‘The Mind’s Vessel’ is a stringed epilogue and closes this strange EP where wind seems to be a driving force. What can I say about this release? Well, I have heared worse material and definitely the composer has musical skills and a sense for songwriting. I also dig the approach of sounding like old FORGOTTEN TOMB, but the harsh BURZUM parts destroy the atmosphere a bit. Definitely space to grow and maybe a bit too early for a label release, but let’s see what more is to come. For more info, you can check www.van-records.com
