Whenever the world is swept with a deluge of burpy, hyper accelerated Death Metal like ORIGIN or DYING FETUS, it’s hard to remember that extreme Death Metal had a much more decaffenated, and as a result, more accessible definition. GORTAL evidently remember that it’s perfectly acceptable to sound like MUTILATED or DEMENTOR. A schizophrenic thrashiness, and equally demented solo work make this album more entertaining than the usual run-of-the-mill Death Metal album. Poland has produced a quantity of competent bands, from the legendary VADER to the lesser known HATE. To their slight detriment, GORTAL are fond of using small intros to open their songs, but not to the extreme degree that RESURRECTION or ACHERON did. Still, it can be a bit annoying. Other than that, GORTAL haven’t done anything wrong. www.myspace.com/gortal, www.gortal.pl, www.paganrecords.com.pl
