GREYTOMB
Monumental Microcosm

The first time I read the name of this Black Metal act I thought this was pure Death Metal. Well, I was wrong. As you can see this is my first approach to GREYTOMB, an Australian atmospheric / Black Metal entity that is composed of four guys. After one demo, a full-length entitled “A Perpetual Descent”, GREYTOMB launched a three songs EP under the name “Monumental Microcosm” last year. The first track, ‘NULL’, is almost 11 minutes long… I tend to think that 11 minutes is enough to make something really interesting, but here is not the place. The next track, ‘Antimeta’, sounds like ENSLAVED on “Isa”. A good one, for sure. Around the third minute you can hear some good atmospheric ideas. ‘Force Majeure’, the last song, just works as an extension of what you heard before: plain and monotonous music. This stuff is sophisticated in terms of sounding and style: good arpeggios and discordant resources on guitars, perfect drumming and great production, but I can´t say this is something really original nowadays, to be honest. I’m not impressed nor disappointed. I’m just not into this kind of stuff. If you’re into DODECAHEDRON, contemporary ENSLAVED or DEATHSPELL OMEGA, this can catch your attention.
