HATEWORK
Madbent For Disaster

When I saw the band’s name I immediately associated this Italian three piece with the current Scandinavian neo Death / Thrash scene. But luckily (?) I was wrong – HATEWORK’s roots seem to be a lot older than that as the material on this ten tracker is pure fuckin’ old school Thrash Metal and the vocals are somewhere in between good ol’ Gerre from TANKARD and NUCLEAR ASSAULT’s John Connelly. HATEWORK are definitely no immature newcomers anymore, cause previously to this album, they already appeared on a few compilations and released a self financed mini CD called “Thrashers’ Attack” in 2000 and a two track single (“Total War”) in the year to follow. The music on their first full length “Madbent For Disaster” is generally very well executed, with a fluent yet savage riffing, great leads and an overall pretty cool, right into your face, fuck off and die attitude. Besides the obvious Thrash Metal background, there’s also hints of classic MOTÖRHEAD (like in ‘Total War’) and old Punk (just check out the band’s extremely cool MISFITS cover of ‘All Hell Breaks Loose’!) to be discovered. This all together ends up in some very refreshing kick ass music which you can either drink your booze or bang your head to (or both).
