Dark Matter Portal

Sometimes I just hate myself for being a reviewer of some certain bands, Metal music styles, whatever. I mean, it’s of course somewhat nice to receive new music in the mail but it has its downsides as well. You get a CD from a completely unknown artist, without any type of info kit attached to it – and then start figuring out where an earth this band comes from, who they are, etc. but most importantly, is there anything on the actual CD that may grab your attention. Well, this 3-piece entity named HEKATOMBE obviously comes from the USA and features such alias names as Svtvn, Deathlord Plaguefist and The King of War. These three nikkies sound like a line-up of some Black Metal band, don’t they? Well, in fact we do have some sort of a Black Metal group here that unfortunately fails somewhat awfully to make any kind of an impression on me personally. It’s very primitive sounding, mostly mid-paced, not well-executed at all – and those acoustic guitars that are all over the place on this recording, simply don’t fit in there. Plus, keyboards’ occasional presence seems to make things even more annoying here. By all means start counting how many positive things I said about this release in the lines above – and just then make up your mind whether "Dark Matter Portal" is worth purchasing for.
