HELHEIM
Raunijar
(Dark Essence Records)
41:32min

Reclined with a tumbler of strong bourbon, staring into the crackling flames, surrounded by a cold wall of dark fir trees… This is the ideal time to listen to this latest record from HELHEIM. To put it more succinctly, the 8th full length by these Norwegian Viking Metal grampas is a stately and atmospheric listen. Following a calm, traditional intro full of acoustics, jaw harp, and clean singing; "Raunijar" proceeds in an unhurried fashion over 4 lengthy contemplative tracks. If slower ENSLAVED and BATHORY’s "Twilight Of The Gods" had a baby, you might come near this album. Another fine offering from one of the strongest and most genuine acts in this style.
