WOW, just look at that cover! It is straight out of a Mad Max sketch book! We’ve got steampunk glasses, a retrofitted truck with skulls thrown in as caution for the road enemies and finally we’ve got five ageless lads who are doing their best they can. HELVETETS PORT is a Heavy Metal band from Sweden embracing the classic sound and they’ve executed it to perfection. Maintaining a steady balance of aggression and melody, HELVETETS PORT is a fan’s dream! A culmination of brilliant song writing and execution, “Warlords” is the band’s third full length. The opener ‘Black Knight’ is all you need to know what the band has in store for us. A simplistic riff based approach with phenomenal vocals, balanced drumming and stunning solos, often leading to the NWOBHM approach. This is exactly the music you want your local pub to be playing on a Wednesday night. This has been a complete surprise for me, very well produced with every member of the band having their own lane in the entirety of the sound. As I was listening to the album, it somehow took me back to a very special album so I paused “Warlords” to play TOKYO BLADE’s “Night Of The Blade” and I realized HELVETETS PORT’s approach is similar and it also immediately highlighted the differences. Some things I found missing on “Warlords” are brilliant choruses, the beautiful melodic touch and a matured radio-friendly sound. However, HELVETETS PORT hold their own brilliantly and make the sound their own by spinning a touch on their output. I suppose production and songwriting would be the two key areas which delight me and also come across as areas where the band could add in a punch or two for the future. A surprise to me for sure, recommended! For more information, please visit: www.facebook.com/helvetetsport, www.facebook.com/hrrecords
