HERETIC RITUAL
War - Desecration - Genocide / Passages Of Infinite Hatred
(Death In Pieces Records)
27:25min

Formed in 2016, this destructive Death / Black Metal band from Mexico presents their debut album, and a quite impressive one I will say. Although the War Metal term can be used here, there is more than just that. Yes, I can sense the inspiration from bands like BLASPHEMY, BEHERIT and SARCOFAGO to name a few, yet there is more in here. To start with the riffs, they are less chaotic, yet never less brutal. There is a more Death Metal edge in the music which also at times has a sound close to early DEICIDE and with also bits of INCANTATION. The vocals are also part of the identity of the band, and they fit perfectly without being monotonous or generic. More than once this brings an evil smile to my face as it reminds me of the sound of the evil Death Metal bands in the 90s. And the production is just perfect for the style, not over produced not sounding too clean or too raw, a great balance where everything can be heard clearly and the riffs shine out in malignancy. There is also that touch of old skull Brazilian Death Metal sound in it, just to add insult to injury. The songs are short and direct at around 3 minutes each and a total of 30 minutes of darkness and damnation, which is the right length for this kind of music, and for sure this will leave you craving for more. A CD version with slipcase and a tape version are already released for those fans of infinite evilness and brutality, including a very well done cover of the mighty ARCHGOAT. Members of the band were also involved in NECCROCULTUS so if you are a fan of the bestiality those lands of the dead can bring, of corpse you need to join the HERETIC RITUAL.
