Oops, it happened again. Recently I was asked about my opinion about "Cobra Verde", the second full-length by HIDEOUS DIVINITY and there it was, this oops-feeling. A band, completely unknown to me (and to most other Death Metal fans, I guess) is releasing one of the best technical Death Metal albums in 2014 and nobody takes notice. Damn, this band needs more promotion and therefore I am writing this review. Originally based in Norway the band is now located in Italy, not necessarily the Death Metal hot spot on this planet. The foundation dates back to 2007, the same year a demo tape was recorded. But then it took five years to release the debut "Obeisance Rising". Did I write best in 2014 above? Well, I tell you, this album is going to be best in 2015, too. Because the technical skills and songwriting qualities are awesome. Many bands do not manage to play both brutal and technical, but it seems that the guys from HIDEOUS DIVINITY are doing this without any problems. Blasting drums, razor-sharp riffs, excellent solos, pulsating bass, versatile vocals – it is all on board to lean back and enjoy three-quarters of an hour. The lyrics are some kind of story dealing with whatever, obviously a green snake. Although the inserted movie samples are in German language, I did not manage to get the point. But that really does not carry weight. Now it’s about you, Mr. Erik Rutan, to prove HATE ETERNAL still being the spearhead of technical and brutal Death Metal! www.facebook.com/hideousdivinity, www.uniqueleader.com
