Makoto Mizoguchi is surely a known face in the American Death Metal scene, having been member of bands like INTERNAL SUFFERING, PYREXIA, ABRAXAS and also live guitarist for the giants HATE ETERNAL. Nevertheless, HORRIFIC DISEASE is a project from his country of origin, Japan, born in 2011 with a different line-up that changed after the release of their first demo. "Outbreak" is their first album, the outcome of his intent to play a mixed form of brutal Grindcore and Thrash Metal. Twelve tracks for just more than an half hour, they sound very aggressive and technical, where Mizoguchi is able to show his shredding guitar skills. Songs are never too long, they’re straight to the point and full of energy. There is not time and space for atmospheric or progressive parts, but there’s some good heavy solo and ear-splitting riffs. I would say that there is a Punk / Hardcore approach in the songwriting, even if the production is more oriented to the brutal Death Metal direction. The drums are annoyingly triggered and I dislike a bit the vocal style of Haruhisa Takahata, too monotonous in my opinion, but these are the only negative aspects here. I’d suggest to check this band if you’re fans of DYING FETUS, MISERY INDEX, NAPALM DEATH, DARK ANGEL and HATEBREED. At any rate you can find elements of these bands in the HORRIFIC DISEASE sound.
