Horror Y Muerte

A new label with its first release, and a new band that started just earlier this year. Usually this is an initial situation to lower your expectations quite a bit. But this wouldn’t do Chilean HORROR Y MUERTE and their self-titled album justice. The musicians are not inexperienced newbies and they surely know what they want and what they do. Rancid, rotten and really down-tuned Death Metal is what HORROR Y MUERTE are all about. I hadn’t expected a musical revolution, and I got a more than solid Death Metal album that reminded me of bands like TOMB MOLD or INCANTATION. This means that HORROR Y MUERTE do not always floor the accelerator, but they often slow the pace down to mid tempo or even doomy grooves. Thus we get a really chequered album that breathes a very old school fire. Songs like the sinister ‘El Triunfo Del Mal Y La Muerte’ or the fast and rude ‘Horror En La Vida, Terror En La Muerte’ are really worth listening to if you’re into Death Metal with no frills. And that’s absolutely fine with me. To keep it short: HORROR Y MUERTE have released a debut that should please any old fashioned Death Metal lunatic.
