HOTH
The Black Goddess Return

I don’t know how many Black Metal bands roam Portugal, though I know the man behind this band J.A. is involved in a lot of the Black Metal bands that are making noise from Portugal (mostly known DECAYED and ALASTOR), though he is also active in three other bands than this one. A damn creative and busy man, impressive. HOTH is as written, Black Metal, with a thrashing edge, that especially paints the guitar riffing, though also some of the rhythm patterns. J.A. has been with the scene since the early nineties, and that is quite clear when listening to the music, as it is rooted in good old classic deeds, tuned up with some intense and steady riffs, midpaced and thrashing with a few atmospheric tracks, that takes it a step down pacewise, to a dark and eerie place, as on the last track ‘Demons Enthral All Deceivers’, which actually is quite good. "The Black Godess Return" is a decent thrashy Black Metal release, that doesn’t really offer many surprises. It’s good for a quick listen, though I don’t think it’ll go into history. There are some bashers, some repetitive tracks and some atmospherically tunes, all blended together on this attack. If you can’t get enough Black Thrashing Metal this is good, for the rest it’ll might turn up a bit bland. More info at www.facebook.com/ibdc.label
