What? Four different labels for one release? Yes, that’s true! In best Punk spirit, these four labels joint forces to release the first CD from the Northfrisian Deathers HYPNOTIC. I think this is a really laudable idea to support young and idealistic underground bands. And HYPNOTIC are one of those bands for sure. Even though “Taken Of The Sea” is their first recording, at least their fronter Kevin “Rotten” Petersen is already experienced, also growling in SLOWLY ROTTEN and ACRANIUS. So, what do HYPNOTIC have to offer? Some very downtuned and harsh Metal of Death, rough as this music has to be. The intro reminds me hard of the almighty WINTER, before ‘Ambrosia’ tears down the wall, especially with the grooving middle part. The following title track has a fat AUTOPSY vibe and groove, while the more midtempo-based ‘Faithful To The Dead’ and ‘City In Grey’ come along with a Black Metal styled second voice. ‘After The Deadline’ (a song about Metal journalists?) grooves as well, but has the coolest riffs to offer here. So, there are some remarkable tracks on “Taken Of The Sea”, making the album a nice find for those who love raw and brutal, Death Metal that’s not on the technical side. To be honest, some more average stuff can be found here as well. But for a debut, produced and originally even financed on the band’s own expense, this is not too much of a problem, even if you take into concern that “Taken Of The Sea” sells for low prices.
