I AM ESPER
When The Sun Sets Over The Wilderness, And The Trees Rattle In The Growling Winds
(Mandarangan Recordings)

Before you go on reading… Heed the warning! This one has not really much to do with Metal in common or Death or Black Metal in particular. I AM ESPER is the band of New Jersey musician Justin Palmieri, who is or was also member in the Ambient Black Metal bands BLACK ANTLERS and BEYOND LIFE. According to discogs.com, this band, with Justin as the sole member, already released 23(!) records since 2009(!!), lots of them on tape or CD-R. The music on "When The Sun Sets Over The Wilderness, And The Trees Rattle In The Growling Winds" is definitely not Metal, it can be described as Drone and ambient Post-Rock. We have four songs only in more than 40 minutes that sound like long, neverending intros on the first listen. The guitar is riding on one tone, that is slightly varied, but never changes dramatically. Drums and bass aren’t used here, and even vocals seem to be completely obsolete. But when you stopped to wait for the song to start, you find out that it could be relaxing, when you’re in the mood for that. If not, the album could be extremely boring and even annoying. If you think you are ready for ‘The Voice Of The Cosmos’ (and I mean both parts of it…), you might give "When The Sun Sets Over The Wilderness, And The Trees Rattle In The Growling Winds" a chance on: www.iamesperambient.tk or www.facebook.com/iamesperambient.
