The Dawn Of Blackened Death

“The Dawn Of The Blackened Death” comes three years after IMPALEMENT’s debut. And again Beliath has taken care of all instruments. And I am amazed again by the proficiency of this Swiss musician. This time he delivers a solid album that has an interesting mix of influences with Black and Death Metal being the main ones. Add a great sense of melody with eerie segments and then seldom atmospheric bits and you’ve got yourself a really interesting collection of songs with constant variations in both rhythm and intention. These are key to the listening experience, since the hyperfast parts merge perfectly with the march-like sections and the mid-paced double kick portions. And then there is the riffing, which combines blazing fast tremolo picking with compelling harmonies and palm muted chunks that feel passionate and harsh at the same time. The leads are amazingly detailed and offer a lot of technical skill. The bass lines here are firmly placed to sustain the guitars, since they don’t have any highlights. On the other hand, they do integrate perfectly with the drums, which offer a bunch of tempo changes, fills and cymbal use. Production wise, the mix is punchy and clear. The drums have a nice sound, although they do have the brightness of either triggers or sound replacement. The guitar tone is crisp and thick supplemented by a clanky, yet meaty, bass sound. Finally, the vocals range from low growls to mid grunts and high pitched shrieks which add a lot of character for each song. All of this is supported by a non-block-like audio mastering that allows the listener to enjoy the dynamics in “The Dawn Of The Blackened Death”. A savage yet elegant album that showcases Beliath’s awesome performances and intricate songwriting.
