Mater Tenebrarum

The third album by the Italian band INNERLOAD has been announced as a Thrash Metal album and one can only wonder who is so deaf. Because for me this is clearly melodic Death Metal, even if it has Thrash Metal elements. But the amount of IN FLAMES like riffing is clearly in the majority and the grunting vocals also tend more towards Death Metal. “Mater Tenebrarum” was produced at Soundfarm Studios in Italy and already released last month via Great Dane Records. All ten songs are characterized by a high degree of joy in playing and variety, without, however, overcoming the genre boundaries of melodic Death or Thrash Metal. There is no attempt here by hook or by crook to reinvent the wheel. Lyrically “Mater Tenebrarum” deals with the twisted states of human mind on the edge of madness and different emotional states. Although it may sound strange now, I am glad that this concept is not reflected too much in the musical direction. Unfortunately, good music is often ruined by an artistic concept that is too overly intellectual. It does not really matter whether INNERLOAD deals with the depths of the human spirit, monsters, demons or Vikings, as long as the result is excellent and that is clearly first-class melodic Death Metal.
