Main man in IRONFLAME Andrew D’Cagna used quite some years to venture around different projects and bands, writing, recording and releasing an album, and then on the next project. A restless soul for sure. Then tragedy struck, one of his best friends died. A friend into classical Heavy Metal, a friend that would have found it quite a shame, if Andrew didn’t use his talents and his powerhouse of vocal abilities, recording a Heavy Metal project. Hence IRONFLAME was born. The first album “Lightning Strikes The Crown” was released in 2017 to praise. We are now writing 2024 and the band is still around, and Andrew is ready with his fifth full length album “Kingdom Torn Asunder”. I got caught by the band with their last album “Where Madness Dwells”, which I reviewed for these very pages. Since then IRONFLAME have released “Compendium”, that makes us headbang to some European bonus tracks, a track from a split 7”, unreleased session tracks and an acoustic version of ‘Marching On’, which originally was released on the debut album. The riffing is drawing you in, catchy main riffs, great melodies, mesmerizing harmonies and great solos. A monster of a rhythm section laying down a solid and rock hard bottom. The vocals as the icing on the cake, do work as such. A great range, a very classical Heavy Metal / US Power Metal vocal, style and phrasing wise, and it works like a charm. Besides handling the instruments damn well, D’Cagna does also write some great and catchy tunes. It is not like he is inventing the wheel once again, though the songs are well executed and if I haven’t written it, so damn catchy. When I listen to Heavy Metal I want to be able to scream along to the choruses, be able to play air guitar along the main riff and the easy solos, and air drum like there was no tomorrow, and I get all of that on “Kingdom Torn Asunder”, together with intriguing songs and dense atmospheres. “Kingdom Torn Asunder” is delivered in a more US Power Metal direction, than the more classical and a tad more simple Heavy Metal direction, the first albums did. Progression or what to call it, it works really well and suits the band with some bolder riffs and more emphasis on catchiness and melody.
