Tetrahedra

LA MER is French for “The Sea” and is a solo project based out of Glasgow, Scotland. It is a semi-experimental, fully focussed atmospheric Black Metal vision of Jeremi who is responsible for all the sound you hear on the record. “Tetrahedra” is an interesting electro industrial atmospheric Black Metal record, I understand why the drums are programmed, but I’d have loved a session drummer on this record and it could’ve made a world of difference. Take the angst of southern rule benders GODFLESH, the bass tone of MESHUGGAH, ethereal female background vocals and add to it all an interesting set of guitar playing that could be mistaken for a middle eastern string instrument from time to time and that’s LA MER for you. I absolutely loved this record from time to time, the Goth Rock parts are to die for, track # 4, ‘Patina’, starts off with the best of what LA MER could offer and I couldn’t be happier. The Black Metal’ish riffs sound alright, there’s nothing absolutely original or to die for when we consider them in isolation but LA MER manages to stitch it all together like the endless Scottish rain with some Polish lyrics thrown in for the mix (track # 6, ‘Strach’). I lived in Edinburgh for a while and would frequent Glasgow from time to time for gigs, I completely align with the sound of LA MER but is that enough to bestow this record with a crown? No. Is that sufficient to appreciate the record for what it is? Yes! LA MER manages to entwine beautiful soundscapes spread across multiple frequencies of genres that absolutely delight. The album has a run time of nearly an hour but manages to highlight excellent songwriting sections which I think should interest any Black Metal fan at large, I’d go a step further and would highly recommend this album to any of Post Black Metal fans. I’m sure it’d resonate with a large set of people and if you have a moment, give LA MER some of your time, I’m sure you’d love it. I’ve heard the album a bunch of times and got myself a digital copy of the record. Lastly, I love, I mean, absolutely love the cover art for this release!
