LATITUDE EGRESS
To Take Up The Cross

Well, this review was some kind of hard work for me. Because the music is not easy accessible. Like most of Funeral Doom or Depressive Suicide Black Metal stuff the listener has to be in a certain mood or the circumstances of the listening session must be fitting. My first try with this album was during one of those typical autumn days, clear blue sky, the winds carried the promise of coming winter but the sun was still warm, children playing with the fallen leaves, a pretty bright and serene atmosphere that afternoon. Almost impossible to concentrate on "To Take Up The Cross". But what other opportunities are there? Usually I listen music the whole day long, but a few days passed until I was in the mood to give this output another chance. And guess what happened – I felt asleep! I guess that whas not the intention of Niklas, the man responsible for instruments, vocalization and lyrics. Formerly the band / project was known under the name LICHT ERLISCHT but Niklas wanted to cut the Depressive Suicide Black Metal roots and concentrate more on Doom Metal. Based on the typical Metal instrumentation LATITUDE EGRESS offer some fine blend of old school Doom Metal. No modern or fashionably elements, just plain and simple Doom Metal. The guitar melodies tend more into the bittersweet direction without getting too stereotyped. Clean-voiced Funeral Doom elegies, to quote the band’s own words. So if you want to go through solitude, loneliness and forlorness, grab your speakers and give "To Take Up The Cross" a try.
