After a four-year break LEGENDRY are back with a new singer and the second part of their so-called “The Earthwarrior Cycle”. LEGENDRY are active since 2015 and “Time Immortal Wept” is album number four by the Heavy Metal band from Pennsylvania, USA. You read that right, no Death or Black Metal this time. That does not necessarily have to be a bad thing, many fans of extreme sounds started with classic Metal and, like me, rediscovered it over the years. In addition, there are now a large number of both old and new bands that indulge in classic Heavy Metal. And that is where LEGENDRY’s problem starts. Because compared to many other publications from this sector, “Time Immortal Wept” is rather below average. As good as the album starts with ‘Sigil Strider’, a pure, melodic Power Metal track, the following eight minutes long ‘The Prophecy’ immediately falls off even more strongly. A faceless Rock’n’Roll like tune, which I would rather suspect on a KID ROCK album. The next tracks are a mixture of Power and Epic Metal and in some moments LEGENDRY are in good company with bands like (early) MANOWAR or HAMMERFALL. Otherwise the motto is often: let’s tear down with our butts what we build with our hands. Excessive electric and acoustic guitar soloing in false moments, strange sing-along vocals and patch-worked songwriting. There are simply too many ideas packed into the individual songs, thus something like an atmosphere can not unfold. Fans of traditional sounds should nevertheless give it a listen. For everyone else who wants to rediscover their Metal roots, I recommend newcomers like MEURTRIÈRES or KERRIGAN.
