LIQUID FLESH
Chair Liquide

It might be just a coincidence, but I was talking to some of my friends some weeks ago about the French Death Metal scene and how many bands, past or present, could we remember from that country. And to my surprise, the number was not that high and the usual names came up instantly: MUTILATED, MASSACRA, LOUDBLAST, SUPURATION, AGGRESSOR, PUTRID OFFAL and KHROMA DEATH. In the last few years I have turned to AD PATRES as one of the new French bands that still carry the banner for their country. And now I can add LIQUID FLESH to that list. I haven’t heard their previous album, but “Chair Liquide”, their sophomore album, is evident proof that Death Metal is as solid as it was in France in the late 80s. This amazing piece of music surprised and shocked me upon first hearing. It is just a great and timeless Death Metal album. Production wise, it sounds modern, but not in the bad, overproduced way. It has a crisp and really clear sound, but it also has enough bite and that serves their material to perfection! The album has a lot of variation going from slow Doom-ish parts to full on blasting; all combined in such an interesting way that one keeps waiting for the next part to hit you right in the head. It’s a really good listening experience that not only showcases how good these guys are but also evoke all those good memories from the late 80s and early 90s Death Metal. Luc Messina infects the whole album with lots of brilliant, effective and headbanging riffs. His guitar tone is thick and infecting. Paul Brousse pounds his way in with a solid and round bass guitar that mixes perfectly with Luc’s guitar. He also takes care of the vocals, mixing deep growls with mid grunts and some high pitched screams, which are another highlight here. To top it off, the drum work of Thomas Messina (Luc’s brother I guess) is as solid as it is flashy. I mean, these 3 guys know what they are doing and their performances are just flawless! I can keep going on speaking wonders about this album. But I better stop and strongly suggest for you to go ahead and buy it because it is that good! These songs hit all the right spots for any Metal fan out there. I am deeply impressed!
