Italian outfit MAD AGONY put out their debut LP 21 years after their only demo, released back in 1992. "Chernobitch" features two members of that original line-up. I haven’t heard their demo tape, but I guess their style hasn’t changed. A mix of Speed and Heavy Metal that borrows from the US and German styles a lot. I heard some JAG PANZER, SATAN and PRIMAL FEAR influences. This debut album shows the band playing with a lot of conviction and attitude. The production is a little trebly for my taste, but that helps the album sound totally 80s. The album has a chunky guitar and bass tone, solid drumming and a good balanced overall mix. Some interesting leads and catchy "headbanging" riffs round the record nicely. My only "but" here is the vocals. Even though they fit perfectly the music, some notes are off from song to song and it is noticeable. For their next album they just need to improve. Besides that, any fan of the good old Heavy / Speed Metal of the mid 80s should find this album enjoyable. Contact the band here: www.madagony.it, www.facebook.com/pages/mad-agony/167534446609096
