Ahhhh… Florida. The state has provided us with an abundance of outstanding Death Metal for decades. Maybe the scorching heat brings on the aggression in the local musicians. But whatever the inspiration, we appreciate it immensely. Steve Tucker (bass, vocals) from MORBID ANGEL, John Longstreth (drums) from ORIGIN and HATE ETERNAL and Gene Palubicki (guitars) from PERDITION TEMPLE are veterans in the Metal field and really need no introduction. Their talent definitely shines in MALEFIC THRONE’s self-titled EP. The four tracks are just enough introduction to whet the appetites of their fans. ‘Deciding The Heirarchy’ is a throwback to what we all love about the genre without sounding too old school at the same time. The abrasive drums are ever changing, the guitars have that Palubicki feel to them and the vocals are raspy yet able to be understood. The second track ‘The Dawn Of The Truth (Shed The Flesh)’ permeates with buzz-saw riffs that slice through the miasma with rapid velocity. We’re really getting the best of three worlds with this amalgamation of musical skill. And dammit if there’s not a breakdown in the middle that’ll have moshers kicking and circling. ‘A New Hand Upon The Blade’, with its machine-gun guitars and screechy growls, will shake the rafters with its animosity. And to end the EP is a cover of SODOM’s ‘Nuclear Winter’. And man, does it fucking snap the brittle bones of anyone nearby. Here’s a band of talented guys who give us a sampling of hopefully what’s to come for a future long-play. And if it’s any indication, we’re in for a fucking rapturous array of glorious riffs and thunderous drums, with a monstrous voice to match.
