MANZANAR is a German band that roamed the scene around 1997-1998, though never released anything. The only thing they left behind were a couple of rehearsal tapes, which Millenial Visions now has brought to our ears with this self-titled 7" release with MANZANAR’s 1997 rehearsal, together with a track from a 1998 rehearsal on the 4 way split release "Fryslân". MANZANAR is offering violent and dark atmospheric Black Metal, with sheer aggression and intensity. Judging from the rehearsal tracks, both on the EP and the split, the band had what might would have brought some attention, as the style MANZANAR is sporting quite took off during the 2000s. The atmosphere is quite militant and misanthropic. Militant due to the cold and often blasting programmed drumtrack, and misanthropic due to the overall aggressive and violent atmosphere that reeks with frustration and hatred. A quite painting atmosphere that drags you into the music and universe of the band. There are quite some hightlights during the 12:29 minutes this recording lasts. Today it might not be the most original music, though 15 years ago, it was actually quite progressive for its kind. The harsh cold crunchy guitar tone, the aggressive reverbed yell, the clever atmospheres that drives the music, the misanthropy, the intensity, the rawness, the industrial cold intros and elements, it is all blended into a quite hitting whole, Black Metal ist ganz doch krieg!
