MASAKRE
Morbid Extinction
(Pulverised Records)
19:49min

MASAKRE’s “Morbid Extinction” is an amazingly engaging jam of old school Death Metal and Crust. At just under 20 minutes, this EP pretty much sums the agony of these Indonesians. Starting with ‘Abhorrent Dreams’, MASAKRE are in the top gear. They’re just plummeting through the noise with their personal wall of distorted sound that just doesn’t give in to anything in the way. The band is persistent, heavy, fast and sounds like a concrete slab to your face. Once again, this is the matter of phenomenal execution, MASAKRE doesn’t reinvent the genre but what they do most effectively is infuse the spirit of old school Death Metal with Crust and the results are quite tasty. If we’d tone down the production a notch and add in deliberate tape-like quality loss, this would sound like a band from the depths of Swedish winter. ‘Abolished Realms’ is my pick of the lot, a nice slow vengeful attack culminating with all heaviness added in together for the listener. I’m glad the band went ahead with the EP and kept it under 20 minutes. This music drains you off your sanity by the second and in some places the band is just insanely fast to keep a track of. This is a live experience through and through, I suppose hearing this in a small sized pub would just infuse madness into your element. Considering the length of the release, do not hesitate to check this out. MASAKRE will not disappoint you.
