MEPHISTOPHELES
Death Unveiled
(Remedy Records)

Real good stuff from the North Germans. “Death Unveiled” is already their 4th album and their 1st one for Remedy Records. There is considerably more Black Metal in these compositions than in those of their labelmates DARK AGE. There are keyboards to be spotted as well. Luckily, they don’t drown the aggression in cheap sounds we have heard a million times before. Instead, the keys are fuly integrated as sometimes they support a chorus while usually they find their own way to add some insanity or they simply keep quiet. Effective and original. This record is evil and kicks ass. Sometimes MEPHISTOPHELES even remind me a bit of EMPEROR (blasphemy, I know). Anybody into melodic Death / Black Metal should give “Death Unveiled” a try. If you’re lucky you might still get one of the limited digi packs with a bonus cover track, namely ‘Whispering Shadows’ by UNANIMATED. There are a few picture vinyls available as well. Finally, you might catch MEPHISTOPHELES live at the Metal Bash Festival in July 2003 in Hamburg, Germany. www.remedyrecords.de
