MERCENARY
Everblack

What a great cover! I wish Hammerheart put this out on vinyl as well oh, they will? Great! Some of you may know Travis Smith for his cover artworks for NEVERMORE, ANATHEMA, OPETH or DEATH. MERCENARY’s music is H-E-A-V-Y with quite an original approach to melodies. Strong production! I’d try to describe this as a mix of SENTENCED (for the pace and melancholy) and DEVIN TOWNSEND or FEAR FACTORY for the unusual melodies and the aggression. It’s not Finnish melancholy, though. The Danish melancholy seems to be lighter. Yet it adds depth to the songs. The variable vocals and the effective use of keyboards finally make this album complete: there are shouts, growls and screams addad tothe real good clean voice so if speed and brutality isn’t always your one and only goal (there are brutal and fast bits as well, though), “Everblack” is surely a good way to spend your next money on. I’d go for the vinyl.
