Formed in 2005, drawing its main influences from such names as DARK ANGEL, EXODUS, KREATOR, etc. – and having a strong intention to bring Metal back to its very roots – and the roots of Thrash Metal in particular. This was something that these 5 guys in the Australian Thrash Metal combo METREYA, did have in their minds when they put this band together. METREYA open their own game of strongly old school flavored Thrash Metal by this 5-song EP, titled "Machines Of War" – and man, do I want to join this game with them? I certainly do. METREYA’s heavy, extremely riff-based and crispy Thrash Metal is right up my alley. The guys are ready to thrash their hearts out the best they can – and we, the listeners of old school Thrash, are certainly ready for their relentless Thrash Metal attacks, aren’t we? In short, it could be said that this Australian Thrash bunch METREYA combines the heaviness of DARK ANGEL with some flesh-slicing riffs of SLAYER – and spice things up with Michael’s (Demov) vocals that are like a mixture of ONSLAUGHT’s main shouter Sy Keeler and TESTAMENT’s Chuck Billy. Yep, I am not kidding here at all. That was my first impression about METREYA’s stuff – and that’s also my final impression about them. METREYA play heavy, mostly mid-tempo Thrash Metal with some amounts of all-mangling grooviness added in for a good measure – and they do everything in a fine way, respecting some basic rules in the old school Thrash Metal so that they even could be respected for what they have done on this extremely enjoyable 5-track offering. METRAYA are definitely true to form, oozing and breathing Thrash like that would be the only thing in their life to provide some true enjoyment to them, i.e. to play violent, in-yer-face Thrash from the very bottom of their hearts and souls.
