MORAX is a one-man Norwegian Heavy Metal project and it has returned with “The Amulet”, the band’s first full-length album. This release follows their debut EP “Rites And Curses” from 2023, and it solidifies the vision of the band’s mastermind, Remi, who also plays in INCULTER. So, here Remi is exploring a different territory. The album is a journey through classic Heavy Metal sound and I have to say that when listening to the album, it took me to bands like MERCYFUL FATE, MEGADETH and even EUROPE or SURVIVOR, so yes, I found it a mix of ranges in between Hard Rock and Heavy Metal with some Thrash Metal passages on the border. From the first track, ‘The Amulet’, you immediately hear powerful melodies, feeling kind of both retro and modern vibes, capturing the spirit of the ’80s, while still feeling fresh and engaging. Vocally, I think Remi shows passion, intensity and excellent instrumentation behind, defining this way the course of the entire album. All across the eight tracks, those Hard Rock / Heavy Metal elements are going back and forth, conferring to “The Amulet” the perfect ambient to keep you in front and pay attention. I also found that the songs are moving on a constant wave of sensations and feelings, that sometimes hit you up in the center of your heart with those melodic guitar lines full of feeling and some other times are able to create dark atmospheres. And this is most likely the identity of the whole album. Finally, ‘The Descent’ brings the album to a thrilling conclusion, wrapping up the journey with precision and poise. The final track leaves a lasting impression, ensuring that “The Amulet” closes out on different movements, strength and passion, much like it began. Definitely worth checking out.
