MORBID MACABRE are no strangers to the extreme Metal. Founding member Alex Oquendo is the brains behind cult Colombian Death Metal legends MASACRE, so they’ve definitely got the know-how of executing highly competent riffage. Genre-wise, they’re akin to "INRI" – era SARCÓFAGO but with more of a focus on the Death Metal part of aforementioned band’s sound (especially in the vocals and drumming style), though, it would be short-sighted to call them SARCÓFAGO worship as there’s more going on. The album is nothing groundbreaking in terms of innovation but in return the listener receives 9 tracks of high quality blackened Death Metal including a cover of ASTAROTH’s ‘Aullido Sepulcral’ (this re-release edition also features an additional cover of SARCÓFAGO’s ‘Christ’s Death’, the new song ‘Domeq’ and a video). If you’re a fan of SARCÓFAGO or bestial Death / Black Metal in general, you will most certainly not want to overlook this one. INRI fucking INRI!! Yep, as soon as I heard this CD I fucking had to tell you all about it! It is a project band apparently, led by none other than Alex"Trapeator" Oquendo of the legendary Colombians MASACRE doing his best Wagner Antichrist impression on vocals. And the music, for the most part, is a very faithful imagining of what an album from SARCOFAGO right after "INRI" would have sounded like (certainly not like "Rotting" or "The Laws Of Scourge"). But be not afraid as this is not ripping off or merely a pastiche of "INRI", one of the greatest achievements in the history of the universe, it also contains many elements of the utterly ferocious Colombian and South American scenes. Very, very good stuff here! Very primitive sounding, yet has a proper recording so you can hear the bestial violence quite clearly. This sounds nothing like MASACRE if that is something any of you are thinking of. This is a great and very promising debut CD by an old veteran that anyone who pride themselves on being a reader of Voices must have!! Also includes an ASTAROTH cover, a Colombian band I had heard about but not heard til now. Good stuff! Get it while it’s hot as hell!! And don’t worry if you don’t get one of the only 300 CDs made as there are plans for its release in Japan, US and on vinyl in Germany! Most definitely: fucking aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrgh!! www.myspace.com/morbidmacabre
