Peruvian Black Metal power-trio MORBID SLAUGTHER formed in 2009 to create primitive, dark and evil music in the vein of the ancient ones all of us hail and praise. From 2010 to 2014 three demos, a compilation and an EP were released from the darkened depths of Lima to spread evil across the globe. With 2015 upon us MORBID SLAUGHTER are ready with their first full length assault entitled “A Filthy Orgy Of Horror And Death”. Unfortunately the title is a little bit misleading since I really was expecting a lot of horror and death within this release but MORBID SLAUGTHER rather deliver an orgy of simplicity and the primitive. The beginning is marked by ‘Cannibal Butcher’, a simple Black / Thrash mixture from start to finish based on the classic Rock song structure. Not a lot of variation, not a cluster of riffs or twists but straight forward ancient Black Metal with a lot of dedication behind it. The second song ‘Zombie Splatter Axe’ is a mid-tempo track which continues what ‘Cannibal Butcher’ started in a more groove oriented way. ‘Chainsaw Blade’ comes forth with more speed again and reminds a bit of VENOM or the earliest works of SODOM. After that MORBID SLAUGHTER deliver a cover version of GG ALLIN & THE MURDER JUNKIES’ ‘Fuck Off (We Murder)’. Unfortunately they could not replicate the intensity and aggression the original is driven by. ‘Deaths Cold Blood’ affiliates with slow and doomy riffs throughout its entirety and marks the slowest moment of the record only to be followed by two fast finishers called ‘Torture Without Anesthesia’ and ‘Slay With Steel’. Generally speaking “A Filthy Orgy Of Horror And Death” is a nice tribute to the first wave of Black Metal and definitely a good record to have some beers to but that’s it. The music is the most uncreative I have heard in a long time and the song titles actually do not fit the music and aesthetic vision of the band. The only thing that make this record memorable are the vocals delivered by Envenom, since he rather uses a more whispered and almost snakelike intonation and totally spares on typical shrieking and screaming. Summarizing this is a record for people who are into stuff like VENOM, early SODOM, early BATHORY and SABBAT even though they might be a bit “shocked” by the clear production “A Filthy Orgy of Horror And Death” offers.
