Usually, I’m not too fond of reviewing releases of one-man-projects, as a lot of them turned out to be either a product of vanity or some redundant bollocks. Thankfully, this is not the case with Brazilian MORTAL ENBODIMENT here. P., the guy who runs this band, definitely knows what he wanted to create: real Death Metal that covers all the original facets that made this genre in the beginning. The first EP “Unbounded Emptiness” shows that MORTAL ENBODIMENT is exactly that. From the first riff after the intro ‘Apeirophobia’, the song ‘This Forgotten Land’ gives us fine Death Metal that breathes the old school vibe. Huge riffs, well timed changes of speed and breaks in the right place. ‘Cosmic Plague’ continues on the beaten path and adds a subtle Thrash vibe. The fierce title track and ‘The Abyss Speaks’ with its grooving closing part also really convinced me. Yet the highlight on “Unbounded Emptiness” is hidden in the end: ‘Fire In The Sky’ is a real stunner, some vibes of SULPHUR AEON, a fine harmonic guitar break and a little hint on the technical side of Death Metal can be found here as well. Thus I can only state that “Unbounded Emptiness” should please any aficionado of fine and variable Death Metal, especially those old geezers like me.
