MOURNERS LAMENT is an outfit from Chile already active since 2004, but after an EP they took a longer break and started composing again in 2013. The result of their restart comes now in form of their first full-length “We All Be Given” and September is the right month to listen to this kind of stuff, as their sound is Doom / Death Metal played the way, which was famous in the early and mid 90s. The band often gets compared to the three British pioneers of this style named ANATHEMA, MY DYING BRIDE and PARADISE LOST but for me their style seems also influenced by the Dutch pendants like BEYOND BELIEF, PHLEBOTOMIZED or CELESTIAL SEASON. The presented six long tracks consist of all trademarks which made this style so famous and enjoyable. Slow and doomy guitars with some really fine lead melodies, slow drumming and intense vocals varying between grunts and spoken passages. Especially the vocals start a bit subdued but grow from song to song. Sometimes the songs could have been shortened a bit but the guys always manage to find the red line again. Only the opener ‘As Solemn Pain Profaned’ is a bit too long for my taste and loses itself a bit, but the overall picture of the remaining tracks is fine. And summarized I can say that this debut is really worth to be checked, but just for fans enjoying the mentioned influences. Only some real memorable hits (like ANATHEMA delivered back then) are missing but maybe this comes on the following albums. More info at: www.facebook.com/mournerslament.official, www.canometal.cl
