Rule number one: it’s not a wrong idea for a Metal band to refer to Tolkien’s fantastic works. Rule number two: if you do so, honor the name and the legacy of the grand master of epic fantasy. Rule number three: if you chose to play Epic Metal, be it Black or Power, imagine your music as a soundtrack to a movie like "Lord Of The Rings". Rule number four: if that doesn’t fit – don’t do it! NÚMENOR from Serbia disregarded the rules. After the release of some singles, EPs and splits over the last years, the band now released their first full length, an album full of uninspired Epic and Symphonic Black Metal songs. Anything either sounds like it has been heard a hundred times before or it comes along so silly that it is pretty close to vicarious embarrassment. The opening intro ‘Opus Draconis’ is really promising, but the first song ‘The Eternal Champion’ already reminds me of RHAPSODY. And that is definitely not a compliment! The five other songs (plus one long outro) feature little more Black Metal elements, but that doesn’t solve the problem that NÚMENOR have released an album that would make Mr. Tolkien turn in his grave if he had to hear this.
